IPS Officers also unhappy

The perceived disparity between the Indian Police Service and other All India services, particularly the Indian Administrative Service, in the Pay Commission recommendations has found an echo at the highest levels of the Government.

A detailed presentation made by top IPS officers has pointed out that the IPS is no longer a Group A service by the looks of it. And the Sixth Central Pay Commission recommendations will create further stagnation at the middle level of the service that is at the forefront of the battle to tackle threats to internal security, they have claimed.

The message has been conveyed to the highest levels, including the Prime Minister's Office, the Union Home Ministry and the Department of Personnel and Training.

As per the proposed pay scales, an IPS officer will earn nearly Rs 65 lakh lesser than an IAS counterpart after 30 years of service, the presentation has argued.

The presentation has made the following points as well: An IAS officer will reach Joint Secretary scale at the Centre in 14 years; his IPS counterpart will reach the corresponding Inspector General level almost six years later; a Director General of Police in a state will need at least five to six years of residual service to reach the maximum scale of Rs 71,270. Moreover, not only has the "anomalous" post of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) not been abolished, officers at this level will actually earn less than earlier - they have been put in the Rs 15,600 scale from the existing Rs 16,400.

Grade Pay is another anomaly that has been brought to the notice of the Government. In a district, the Superintendent of Police (SP) will be at a disadvantage not just in comparison to the District Magistrate but even the Additional District Magistrate in many cases, IPS officers point out.

The IPS group's disenchantment with the Pay Commission report does not end here. "Internal security is such a grave matter but it finds mention only three or four times in the report," a senior officer pointed out.

Does any IPS officer has to even touch his salary. They don't as they get only peanuts in the salary vis a vis the money their position alone can get them. There are two points to ponder. One if you continue to give them peanuts they would continue to live on society.Second is more surprising that even after living on lavish extraorinary income by virute of their position and power they are still looking for more peanuts in the form of salary .They should not and never be equated with IAS.Then only their enormous power can remain under ckeck.

I can understand the dis enchantment the above two mentioned anonymous gentlemen must be having regarding police.Mostly colored by, I am sure hindi movies. The fact is boss,a majority of IPS is not corrupt and the ethos of lower constabulary , which undoubtedly has many black sheeps are being enforced on us. I joined IPS after leaving a lucrative medical career and now am facing my familys ire.No money, long work hours, stress, no holidays make it a thankless job.No amount of power can compensate for the food on the table.Iam scared to host any party, coz i dont have enough money for that. How do i get my kid admitted to a good school? My salary of 20000 is a fifth of my average MBBS batchmates and infact anyone doing so so in private sector.I request you to not let ur opinions get coloured by hindi movies and appreciate the hard work we do, that too with all the brickbats.

Hey everyone, not all police personnel are taking bribe. Still there are sincere police officers in the country. There may be some officers, but you should not make a common statement when talking in a public blog like this. Hope you understand how much it hurts a sincere officer... Thanks for accepting it.

SHAME ON PEOPLE WHO QUESTION THE INTEGRITY OF IPS OFFICERS , THESE GUYS ARE SUPPOSED TO PUT THEIR LIFE ON LINE FOR A JOB THAT IS LOOKED DOWN UPON , IS THANKLESS AND UNREWARDING . REAL INDIANS WILL STAND BY THE IPS CADRE. AFTER ALL THEY ARE THE ONES WHO TAKE A BULLET NOT IAS . EVEN THE SO CALLED ARMY OFFICERS ARE FINANCIALLY BETTER OFF . EVER TRIED TO CHECK CORRUPTION IN THE ARMY AND IAS. IPS ZINDABAD

I agree with the "anonymous" IPS officer who left a "lucrative medical career"---by which, I guess he is an MBBS at least. There are indeed a lot of officers who are sincere and clean. However, as far as the Great Unwashed Common Man is concerned, all Police officers are nothing but cruel, mean and dangerous criminals masquerading as "angels" of society--whereas they are nothing more than leeches. So, please cut down on your whimpering about "inability to host a party". How many people in India can afford to host a party, anyway?

all people are born cruel , corrupt and violent. Its our instinct, we are all selfish to the core, its the basic human nature....only the way we are brought up, and most importantly the situtions under which we were reared ,can make us a better person.

guys......i think all IPS get together and take their voice to the relevent department...that this is wrong....as earlier IAS and IPS was like same post......then y the diffrence between pay scale ???

I'm living abroad...and very strong to face CSE, as i want to be IPS.....i think the money i will earn as an IPS will be nothing as per my current income here.

The most important thing is if government wont lookafter for Force personal then might chance to increase curreption.....and which is making ill the country.

Hope Government will look after for IPS and will increase the pay....Jay Hind.

  11. I am working as a Business Development Manager in an American firm. With a short experience of 3 years i am 40,000 + Perks...I had thought of doing IPS, after reading the posts on the pathetic situation of salary in IPS, I feel I am better continue here. Because at the end of the day I want to make my kids study in good schools. I want to live an honest and clean life. Which I'm living right now. If I join IPS, I might have to ask my 2 brothers to stop their higher studies.

i heard of an IPS officer in the first year of service amassed 1crore of gifts.Great right! , no need to touch the salary.

Taking bribe is against the law.

Government should take steps to restrict those kind of faulty people.

    Hi all,
I've been reading ur comments for the past 3-4 days.
Am a fresher 22 years of age, working with Infosys for the past
11 months with a salary of 22k in-hand. I think at this stage
of life I'm earning quiet more than any Suprintendent of Police(SP).
Had I been doing any job for Google or Microsoft where an average salary package
is around 9-10 lakhs for a fresher..I'd still have left my job for this service.
Life is not all about money...Every day we discuss about corruption & other issues which our country is suffering from
but no body wants to serve their motherland by joing IPS or other services...Why ?..bcoz the slary is low...
Guys dont u forget ...."To see a change you'll have
to become a change first "... I've never thought of any salary issue
when it comes to become an IPS...I'm preparing for the same
for the last one year & hoping to take my first attempt for
which I'm gonna leave my lucrative S/W engg. job in May next year.
Most of the people who posted their comments are either making fun of IPS...
.discussing throwing a party issue ...bribe issue...or making a common statement to all the IPS officers. A common statement (like an anonymous person has made here) could not
be enforced to all the IPS officers. The truth is these are your ethics...your moral values..your roots that makes you the kind of person you wanna be
...be it an IPS officer or a common person.

Every IAS/IPS wants their kids to follow the same line...even with this salary..why?..
why people live in jiya sarai, katwaria sarai after getting graduate degrees(even in engineerng & medical) from good colleges..instaed of joining job they are offered...
why ..even working at some job they prepare for ICS exam...for lesser salary...
becasue my friends ...they know the salary is just the peanuts in comparison to real juice they get in this job..

EVERYONE IS SAYING THAT OUR SYSTEM IS CORRUPT DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. WE HAVE NO RIGHTS TO SAY LIKE THIS ABOUT AN IPS. EVERYONE IS SUGGESTING SOMETHING FOR SYSTEM, MY DEAR ""SUGGESTIONS MEANS THAT YOU WANT SOME CHANGE(IN THE SYSTEM), AND TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM YOU SHOULD BE IN THE SYSTEM"" BECAUSE AFTER A PART OF THE SYSTEM YOU WILL COME TO KNOW HOW THAT SYSTEM IS RUNNING,WHAT ARE THE LACKING POINT, WHEN IS THE PRESSURE AND FROM WHERE..

AND ABOUT CORRUPTION ,TELL ME IN THIS COUNTRY WHO IS NOT CORRUPT.

getting into this kind of service is not by chance nor a trial, neither a mistake.it requires a lot of effort and detemination,it means sacrifice,a total surender for the service. Infact a good civil servant aspirant need not care about the income or salary that he would derive but all they aspire is rendering a good service to the civilians.one may say,at the end of the day its all about money.yes, you are right but not true because a good civil servant is unassuming. Cooling down the staus quo and the status quo ante,no wander how controvercial it may appear,an ips officer always have his share of salary whatever the amount. A good and upright person or a civil servant,in general, a good human being is contented with what every he has or recieves as long he is not denied.money is not everything.

Please guys... just think before you comment...
We are nothing to talk about an IPS officer. If at all you guys wanna talk about the corruption and other mistakes in the state or country first talk about the Politicians who the hell is the main reason for all this.
frankly speaking an IPS officer cant do anything directly for the welfare of the society... (i.e: he cant be strict and stright forward )

    1. he is supposed to get bribe eventhough it hurt his feelings, if not the politician will finish him. ( he can get that and do some good things for the society and then indirectly put those guys into trouble by letting the news about them to media without his name). Later when the issue is popular then only he can come into picture just for his and his family safety.
    2. We are the guys who are more responsible for this corruption. Have you ever paid a fine with a bill to any of the police cops, instead you guys pay them 100 and 200 and escape (that too for the mistake u did). So We started it.
    3. If the officer is very strict then he is simply transferred.
    4. His family members are in trouble.
    5. Have you ever worked in your office on Diwali's, pongal, christmas, ramzan, etc anything... Think off...
    6. On top of it, its not a movie where you can just go directly and finish off 100 's of villans with a piston. They need to move carefully. If not anything can happen to him or to his family.
    7. Have you ever scared for sending your kid to school or for an school tour or to a public place, but they have to.
    8. I am just a civil service aspirant, I am trying for this IPS post. I should get this post for sure.
    ...... etc ......

We are nothing in front of them.
They are the one facing the good and bad...
Their life is filled with thrill and adventure...
So there is nothing wrong in paying them better.
So either salute them or let us shut our mouth instead of comments.

    ...JAI HIND...

we knw dat dis systm is practising many corrupt activities but wen v luk at d broader prospect we hav to say dat it d govt. wich is responsibl for dese corrupt acts...d IPS officers shud b entitld to a bttr salary to help dem avoid the so called "peanuts" from d outsiders....wen our wife is a good cook den we do not hav to go to restaurants regularly....apart from dat don't we think dat d amount of efforts deu put in is incomparabl....dey start sacrificing dere lives even b4 dey become an IPS....dey hav evry reason to protest but in dis democracy u can't even think of protesting against d govt. even if u r a part of it...even dese officers hav a family to support and a social life look after....and talkin of d corruuption part of it den must say dat unfortunately its d govt. wich is largely responsibl for it...
