It is learnt that the Sixth Pay Commission has initiated the studies for reaching some conclusion in the pay related matters. Floowing studies are being taken right now:
- Study on Feasibility of Performance Related Pay (PRP)-
- Study on Compensation Package
- Study on Terminal Benefits of the Central Government Employees
The first study is being done by by Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A). It is to be recalled that one of the member of the commission is Prof. Ravindra Dholakia, who is from IIM-A. We will go through these studies in the comming months.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: For a Government which can’t pay reasonably (rather better) and do justice and welfare for it’s employees, there is serious doubt that it would be able to do justice and welfare of rest of the citizens. Mr. P. Chidambaram think about it, before Congress losses all over India (already the alarming bells are ringing in several recent State election results for Congress) and it throws you out of your job.
ReplyDeleteIf Government can't pay reasonably it may lead to attition in government sector also. Because now-a-dayss the new entrants are coming with qualifications minimum with Degree/PG and they are able to perform ng multiple roles just like in pvt sector. But the pathetic thing is even though you perform above your post in many cases you will not be eligible for any kind of appraisal or incentives. But they will keep you busy in important work if officers knows your capacity but they can't give any monetary benefit by way of promotions or performance icnentives. But only what they can do is extraction of work even though their consciousness knows they can't extract the same work from whom they are supposed to get.
ReplyDeleteThis is the malady in the current government sector. If especially in many Gr.C caders they have reduced administrative posts by almost 1/3rd to 2/3rd in many offices accordingly the existing staff'stpay was not compensated.
where as in private sector though you will be asked to do more work you will be compensated appropriately by way of additional bonus and pay hikes in the range of 20 to 100 percent
where as in government the apathy is whether you work or not work you will get the same
In government sector the work culture is very bad. Also the method of evaluation is very bad. The evaluation is not based on the ability of the employee but based on chamchagiri because govt sector is not driven by revenue/profit. Hence, officers always prefer those people who do chaplusi to please them and on the other hand the very few people who work are never recognised for their work. This is the main difference between govt sector and private sector. In private sector they have to reward the high performing people because thats the only way for growth. Hence, even if salary is increased in govt sector it will only benefit those who do chamchagiri and chaplusi. Hence, I would suggest that there is no need of pay increase unless we cant improve work culture and evaluation process in govt sector.
